4 THINGS EVERY STUDENT SHOULD KNOW AFTER A CONVERSATION WITH YOU

1. He clearly values me

Communicate from the very start that you are glad that they are here and that they are needed in your student ministry. They aren't just a number but they are important and have something to offer the youth group and it's just not the same without them.

2. He truly listened to me

They hear from you enough, in conversations make it all about them! Just listen, don't react to statements intended to shock or test you. Let them vent without trying to answer or solve their problem. After the conversation they won't have a very good gauge of whether you helped but they will know without a doubt whether you listened.

3. He genuinely cares about me

If students glean anything from you it should be that you love them, you want to help them succeed, you are praying for them, and you are interested in learning about them. When a student walks away from a conversation with me, no matter what we talked about, I hope they think "I know he is on my side and wants the best for me!"

4. He wants me to keep moving forward

The first 3 are all about grace but we have to speak truth as well. Because we love them, every student has to hear that we aren't content to let them stay where they are at spiritually. Do your students think this about you... "He's always pushing me to take the next step in my journey with Christ. He says the hard things to me to hold me accountable when I step out of line." I hope so.

Let's keeping loving students and point them towards Christ with every conversation we have!
