HOW TO DOWNLOAD YOUTUBE VIDEOS

YouTube is a great tool that you can use in your student ministry. That's why there is a whole section on BreakFreeYouthMinistry.com that is dedicated to YouTube videos that can be used in your youth group. If you're wondering how to download them so you don't have to watch them through a we browser, let me give you a couple simple ways.

#1a - The way I download videos is through a plugin in my Firefox browser called Downloadhelper (http://www.downloadhelper.net). If you use Firefox, and you should if you have a PC, it is an awesome tool that gives a one-click download in your menu bar for any embedded video. It not only works with YouTube but nearly any site where videos are embedded. I'm sure there are similar plugins for IE, Safari, and Chrome that will do the same thing.

OR

#1b - Use a site like www.savevid.com or www.keepvid.com to paste the URL of a YouTube video and get the direct download link.

THEN

#2 - Most of the time you will need to convert the video into a format that works with your system. You can download most YouTube videos in either .flv or .mp4 format. If you need a different type of file format than you'll need to convert it. Here are a few options.

1 - If you use downloadhelper you can use their built in conversion tool. For more info on that see here... www.downloadhelper.net/conversion-manual.php.

2 - Use an online converter site like www.mediaconverter.org which converts it and sends you a link to download it. These are alright, but take a long time.

3 - Use your own software to convert. This is what I do because it is fast and you can customize the video to whatever specifications you want. I use Xilisoft Video Converter but a good free converter is "Any Video Converter".
